We stock Aspen collars in our hospital....
In the ED and ICU, the nurses maintain C-spine precautions and change out
the collar.
On the med surg units, we have an ortho tech that will fit and change out
the stiff necks....

Subject: [traumanurses] Nurse driven protocols and c-collars
Hi Everyone,
I am currently trying to collect nurse driven protocols
from other Trauma ICU's/Trauma Centers. We are in the process of trying to
developed one's that we can use in our unit. For example, tube feeding,
resp. distress, return from surgery intabated, fever, vent. weaning, or
DT's. Any protocols that you could send me would be of great help. I would
also like to ask everyone about C-Collars. What do you when you can't clear
a pt's neck and need to place a Miami-J or Aspen collar, do you call a
outside vender to come and place it or do you keep a supply in you hospital?
Sincerely,
