At our facility I list the referring Dr on the Face sheet of the record and then our medical records department sends the discharge summary to that Dr at that facility.

Have any of you run into problems with HIPPA regs and your correspondence regarding follow-up information?  I have been trying to get something like this started for the referrals/transfers from our out-lying facilities, and am hearing that it will be potentially a HIPPA violation.  It would be physician-to-physician, i.e. to the referring ED doc from our Trauma Medical Director  -- any thoughts?
