Hi, Debbie...we just finished going through the ACS/DHS Survey (my
first!),
and I can say what seemed to be an excellent precursor to the visit was
by
way of our In-House Newsletter ("The Insider"). I wrote a little piece
talking about the Survey and the tour areas the Surveyors wanted to
access
as well as spoke with the Department Managers who were going to be
on-site
the day of the tour to be sure they didn't have any questions or
reservations. I'm faxing you a copy of the article.......I believe it
helped everyone to at least be aware of the event and people involved.

I've forwarded your email to some flight nurses. I can tell you in CT

have to be RN and EMT-P. The reason is that our flight programs are
air
ambulances and so must meet the state minimums for mobile intensive

We call ours a "Modified Trauma" In the majority of these cases the
trauma
surgeon must admit the patient. If it is an isolated injury with
significant
mechanism, i.e. MVC with a open tib/fib, then Trauma can consult. They
have
8 hours to see the patient on a consult. They then must follow the pt
for 24
hours. We rarely do those and instead have the trauma md admit and sign
off
to the specialty service in 24 hours.

The criteria for surgeon presence/response is laid out by the ACS.

are strict criteria as to when the trauma surgeon must be present
within
15 mins (confirmed BP < 90, resp. compromise/obstruction, GSW to abd.,
neck or chest, GCS < 8 with mechanism attributed to trauma). You can

Well I did some flying in canada before i left. I am now in AZ phoenix
area
and am looking into programs here. Is flight nursing so low paid where
you
are? here i couldnt believe it. How do you feel one should be prepared
for
flight nursing? Currently im an instructor of ATCN (ATLS), ACLS, PALS
and
BTLS. I think no matter what i want to fly but i am unsure about
losing
skills i have learned over my years in the ER. I assume , due to the
low
pay, i would end up maintaining a part time ER job anyway.

have a EMT-P as well (which im not sure i understand the reasoning
for).
