California provided some dollars set aside from the General Funds last year.
(If I recall correctly, it was initially $25 million, then the governor
decided none would be distributed, then changed his mind again and gave 20
million instead. - If someone else recalls these figures differently,
please correct) This was funneled through the local EMS agencies and in our
area was given to trauma centers based on volume.
Future funding of course is in jeopardy and many EMS and Trauma
Committees/Coalitions are looking at alternative ways to keep this money
available for trauma center support.
There are currently a number of proposed legislative actions on the table:
(AB 602, AB 992, will tax ammunition - 10c/per would be paid to the State
Board of Equalization and deposited in the Trauma Center Fund)
there are other bills like AB1026 which addresses additional
fines when a person is convicted of violating DUI provision as a repeat
offender or has a > 0.15% BAC. This is for funding DUI programs and
Maddy EMS Fund),
(SB 108, 476, 536, 635 and 725 are all interesting EMS
related actions that may assist with overall EMS/Trauma Funding.
how and where these dollars go should not be counted on
until the check is in the bank!!

Subject: [traumanurses] State Support of Trauma
I would appreciate responses to the following questions.
Does your state provide monetary support to Trauma in any
way? (example:
special taxes)
If they do, what state are you from?
And In what way do they provide support?
Thank-you
