For the med surg units there are a few things I like to plan for their education:
  1. Mechanism of Injury (to better understand missed injuries)
  2. Initial assessment after admission to their unit
  3. Understanding the importance of Glascow Coma Score
  4. Complications associated with immobility (why you have to get them out of bed so much)
  5. Conservative Spleen management (if they go to med/surg, some go to stepdown or ICU)
  6. Compartment Syndrome (especially ortho)
  7. Care of the chest tube
Just some thoughts.
