We are developing a Trauma Education Series, which is open to all staff
involved in the care of trauma patients - last year we held 3 sessions and
are hoping to run 6 for 2003. Topics we have had so far: Assessment in
trauma (zipped through initial assessment and then focused on complications
to be alert for), Geriatric trauma, Nutrition and metabolic needs, neuro
assessment, chest trauma/thoracotomy, chest tubes, respiratory basics
(focused on non-intubated patients, trach care, etc), Oxygen transport/ABGs,
ortho trauma, traction - there have been other topics but I'm blanking. So
far the format has been 4 hours with varying speakers and breaks, just
started offering CECH's. Upcoming ideas are domestic violence, the role of
OT/PT, ethics, bioterrorism, and more. We'll be repeating some of the
earlier topics. Feedback from staff has been wonderful - they really
appreciate a combination of didactic and hands-on, if that is possible.

Subject: [traumanurses] Nursing in-services
I am planning nursing in-services specific to trauma for our med/surg and
step down units. I was wondering what you folks do for those floors. Any and
all info will be appreciated!
Thanks, Cindy
