Since our Trauma Team works well, we decided to use them to activate the
disaster plan.
If the ED is informed that there could be more than 5 seriously injured
patients, they have the operators activate the trauma team by paging, "Trauma
Alert Times 5 in (how ever many) minutes". This signals everyone on the trauma
team to call extra help. It also alerts the operator to notify the Incident
Commander and Chiefs. They come in and decide what sections need to be
activated based on the incident. In the mean time patients that arrive right
away are being cared for by the trauma team.

Would anyone be willing to share how their hospital disaster plan is
incorporated with the hospital's activation process? Do you activation your
trauma system when the hospital disaster plan has been initiated? If so, do
you activate each individual patient? Thank you in advance for your
response.
