We have a formalized rounding system M-F where the Trauma Surgeon, the
Trauma Nurse Practitioner, ICU Medical Director, Nutrition, Pharmacy, Social
Services, Chaplaincy, Case Manager, the nurse taking care of the patient
discuss daily issues. Rehab Therapies come once a week along with CNS's and
other involved parties (ex: Dept supervisor or manager). The trauma surgeons
round independently on the weekend. We have been having approximately 9-13
patients on the service per day and we round until we cover all the
patients. Usually less that an hour. The nurse practitioner tries to keep
everyone on track and moving. Some days it is less than 30 minutes, just
depends on the complexity of the patient population and individual personal
style. We are a level II community facility.

Subject: [traumanurses] rounds
I am interested in information from ACS Level II trauma centers concerning
trauma rounds. How often do you round? Who is included in these trauma
patient rounds? Do you round on the weekends? How many hours is set aside
for rounding? I appreciate the information in advance.
