We are not a teaching facility, but have a M-F nurse practitioner that is an
employee of the hospital. They are unable to bill for her services since
she is employed by the facility. At one time, we looked to see if it would
be feasible to have her employed by the physician group, but cost wise, it
did not pencil out for the docs. The NP also does not always get to do the
advanced procedures and dictations she was trained for because of the
inability to bill for her. Also, if they billed her services it would be at
a lesser rate than if the MD did the job himself, thereby decreasing
revenue. It is a VERY valuable addition to provide continuity and relief
when the service is busy, just does not always fit into the budget for the
docs. Our JD is attached.
