Wendy,

Having just gone through a state survey (not ACS) on Fri, June 13th, I learned
(the hard way) that reviewers appreciate a color tab coding of various sections
of the chart so they can get through them faster - especially if the chart is
thick.

The suggestion given me was to use a colored tab for each section and provide
the reviewer with the key. For example, all trauma flowsheets are tabbed
"yellow"; H&Ps, "blue"; ICU flowsheets, "green"; discharge summaries, "red".
Having not done this, I'm not sure how many colors Staples or Office Depot
offers. As an alternative, one could use white tabs and write the name of the
identified chart section on it.

Seems if you make navigating the chart easier, it might make the review easier.
Having not done this did not negatively impact the results of our recent
review.

I would appreciate a copy of the checklists, too. And any pearls of wisdom
anyone would like to share regarding preparing the records for review.
Thankyou:)
