I keep a copy of the certificates. How do I get them? My best way is to
make friends with their office managers. Another method is that I have a
table for each department...Trauma Surgery, Ortho, ED and Neurosurgery. As
I get the certificates I add the number of CEUs to the table. Quarterly I
send out a copy of the entire table to each physician (peer pressure
sometimes works wonders) reminding them to send me any of their CME. This
usually generates a flurry of faxes or the more technologically advanced
will scan and then email to me. This way I am up to date and can avoid the
lasst minute pressure before the site visit. I let my trauma director know
if anyone is falling behind and he then does some personal lobbying,
suggesting courses etc. For inhouse our medical education department keeps
track and is able to email me a database annually. We are a Level II trauma
center with about 875 admissions a year and there is me and a full time
trauma registrar.
