We are trying to impplement a sedation/analgesia protocol in our unit right
now. We would like all physicians to use the accompaning order set on all
patients in the ICU. The policy and order set suggest a daily holiday but
do not mandate it. If it is safe for the patient we would like the nurse to
hold sedation for one hour each am (day shift before rounds is the best
time), assess neurological status and then re-start the infusion at the
lowest tolerated rate and titrate up according to the Ramsey scale.

Subject: [traumanurses] Sedation

Hello all,

Was inquiring if any of you who use sedation/pain protocols do a "sedation
vacation" and if so, how and when?

Thanks.
