Debbie:
Our Trauma Surgeons called the manufacturer of our pump. You can use a
double-lumen central line, but not the triple-lumen central line. We have
not had any trouble with using the double-lumens. We have had the issue
with not knowing if the cartridge (of contrast that is clear) is empty or
full. There is no alarm on our machine and the cartridge comes ready to
inject. It is extremely difficult to see if there is fluid in the cartridge
or not. We have notified the manufacturer and the FDA, but have not come up
with any solutions Has anyone else had the problem and if so what was your
solution.

Subject: [traumanurses] IV contrast dye via central line
Is anyone using a central catheter that is rated for IV contrast and use of
power injector? The power injector we use has PSI of 300.
I have checked with Arrow (PSI limit of 15) and Edward's Lifesciences (PSI
limit of 43.5).
If unable to obtain peripheral IV, how is IV contrast injected?
Thanks
Debbie
