We monitor ICP on transport. Our reasons:
Maintain the same level of care during transport as we have in the ICU.
Early warning system that leads to a more in depth exam and may even
require terminating the transport.
We have always carted the monitors along with us so we have not compared
the two.

Subject: [traumanurses] IAP monitors
Hello, I have a question regarding ICP monitoring.
Our Critical Care transport team (Critical Care nurses who transport
patients between departments and to out of unit procedures/tests) is
looking to develop guidelines regarding transport of patients with IAP
monitors. Current practice for us is to disconnect the monitor and
treat pt prn based on behavior and other parameters. Are other units
monitoring the ICP waveform on transport to procedures etc and if so
why, what outcomes have been looked at etc...just general
issues/question. Thanks.
