Agree that the developmental isues of the adolescent can be as big as the 
physical injuries - our age is also 17 for the PICU - also as below can triage 
to the adult unit- teens still cared for by the pediatric trauma surgeons \CNS

We are a Level I trauma center in Portland, Oregon, and the PICU
intensivist, caregivers desire all those patients that still comply with
Pediatric Association  guidelines.  This essentially means except for those
outliers that you stated below, all patients from infancy to graduation from
high school.  They feel that all of the adolescents are also at very
specific developmental states and they should meet those needs.
This does assist with downloading the busy adult ICU and the pediatric ICU
because both ICU's can actually be capable of handling the adolescent age
group to allow that age group to be cared for in either ICU.   Hope this
