We are using some disposable traction splints for our patients. They seem to work well....the best part is that all the "pieces" are always there:):):)
If the pt is not going to surgery within about 4-6 hours we usually get them into skeletal traction....
We do not have a dedicated trauma OR and our OR time for anything is extremely tight.....leading to an unfortunate delay sometimes if the patient is otherwise stable with an isolated injury. We have been "loosely" tracking this as part of our qi program but have not seen a problem with the open fractures or ones that the surgeon deems as truly emergent...usually get there within a 4 hour window.
