We keep a number of trauma packets for "unidentified male" and "unidentified female".  Each of these charts has a pre-assigned number.  We use this number to draw labs, x-rays, etc.  As soon as we identify the patient, we enter it into the system and print an updated face sheet.  The number stays the same throughout the hospitalization.  At discharge, if the patient has a previous number, the trauma number is changed in the system to match to original number and to keep medical records together.
